TRINITY WIN IN LIMERICK! 13/11/2010 Old Crescent 13pts - Trinity 19pts Trinity travelled to Old Crescent on Saturday to play a game against their “bogey” team, a club that they had only defeated once in ten games over the past twelve years. The odds looked against the students when they arrived. They were greeted by torrential rain which would seem to suit the bigger home pack. Old Crescent came out very hard keeping ball in a very direct attack of the Trinity interior defence. Trinity were up for the challenge and knocked the opposition runners back with relish. Trinity then settled into the game and kept the ball themselves with some good movement from all over the pitch. The home team got a turnover from a Trinity line out and scored a surprise try - the only try they looked close to scoring in the whole game. Trinity came back and kicked two penalties through fullback James O’Donoghue. Crescent kicked a penalty of their own, to lead 8-3. Trinity took the lead with a try that included several players, which ended in second row Pierce Byrne putting Shane Hanratty away in the corner for a superb score. There were no more tries. Trinity continued to dominate the game in difficult slippery conditions. The pack stood up well and certainly got the better of the home eight. In the second half Trinity had the slope in their favour, kept the ball well and kicked when they needed to kick. James O’Donoghue had a magnificent game running and kicking with great confidence. He kicked three vital second half penalties as the students put their kicking woes of the past few weeks behind them. This was such an important win for Trinity who have been very unlucky the past three games. They now go into their next game against a very strong Corinthians XV (27th November) with a lot more confidence. Team; 15 James O’Donoghue,14 Tim McCoy, 13 Conor Colclough, 12 Paul Galbraith (Dave Joyce 2), 11 Neil Hanratty, 10 Ciaran Wade, 9 Sam Bell, 1 Colm Goode (Paddy McCabe 75) , 2 Mark Murdoch (Craig Telford 75), 3 James Gethings, 4 Colin McDonnell, 5 Pierce Byrne, 6 Johnny Iliff, 7 Dominic Gallagher, 8 Alan Mathews. Trinity 2nd XV had a comprehensive win in Donnybrook on Monday evening over a plucky Bective XV 26-9. They did not get the bonus point but the win was much needed after a couple of narrow losses. Next Monday they play Old Belvedere in Anglesea Road. In Santry Trinity Premier U20s XV were well beaten by Lansdowne 34-0, a game they looked to be doing well in up to half time. Lansdowne dominated the second half to score three tries and a truck load of penalties. The only positive for Trinity was they kept Lansdowne from scoring a bonus point with four tries. Trinity play UCD next Wednesday 24th November in the Belfield Bowl - 8pm KO. This will be the start of the very competitive “Super Six” competition
Trinity Pennant U20s had a good 46-3 win over Suttonians to move into second place in their section. The 3rd XV lost to Old Wesley 29-14 in a tough physical game.
