TRINITY DISAPPOINT IN CLONAKLITY!! 08/12/2007 Clonakilty 28pts Trinity 8pts Trinity travelled to Clonakilty with high hopes of a top three position if they could win. These ambitions were destroyed in the mud and wind at Shannonvale ground on Saturday. Clonakilty, who came into the game second from bottom in the league, were fired up to get a win. They chose to go with the strong wind in the first half on a very wet field. Trinity did well early on keeping the ball through phase after phase. But on 16 minutes Clonakilty outside centre intercepted to score under the posts. This unfortunate score seemed to give the home side great spirit and they followed this with two penalties and another try off a Trinity turnover. Trinity were suddenly 21pts down. Clonakilty then crucially scored on 32 minutes to increase their lead to 28pts. Trinity came back before half time to break out and full back Shane Hanratty did well to score in the corner. Trinity were 28-5 down at half time with a massive mountain to climb. The weather took a turn for the worst, with more rain and the game was played out in the Clonakilty half with only a penalty scored for Trinity by out half Johnny Watt. Clonakilty dominated possession into the wind and rain by just picking and going from the base of rucks playing down the clock. It was a painful way to lose as the students could not get their hands on the ball. Trinity have to bounce back after this bad loss. They host top of the table Young Munster in College Park on Saturday in the last game before Christmas. A win next week would put them back into the top five. Trinity team; 15 Shane Hanratty, 14 Brian Barnard, 13 Volney Rouse (Eddie Hamilton 60), 12 Paul Gillespie, 11 Killian Stafford (Michael Boland 50),10 Johnny Watt, 9 Joey Burns, 1 Tristan Goodbody (Graham Murphy 70), 2 Ben Cunningham, 3 James Gethings, 4 Scott LaValla( John Byrne 55), 5 Max Cantrell, 6 Richard Morrow, 7 Marc Lynch (Alan Mathews 50), 8 Brian Coyle. Other news; Trinity went to the top of the U20s Super Six League with an impressive win over Naas in Santry 27-3. Trinity led 10-0 at the half, in the second half they played some superb running rugby to get the bonus point for four tries. Tries were scored by Johnny Iliff, Chris Jebb, Conor Colclough, Cillian Suiter. Richard Brady kicked one conversion and a penalty and Martin Dufficy kicked one conversion. All other games were cancelled due to the adverse weather. |
