TRINITY WIN AT DLSP!!
24/01/2009
DLSP 12pts Trinity 30pts – January 24th 2009

It was good to get back on the winning trail for Trinity. They played in near perfect conditions in Kilternan. There was a cross wind, but compared to last week it was perfect!!

Trinity started the game in impressive form moving the ball around, with the forwards putting down a marker early by pushing around the home pack at scrum and line out.

Off a scrum debutant out half David Joyce, up from the u20s, made a fine break but was unable to link with his full back Chris Jebb. Minutes later he broke again this time finishing off his break under the posts. He added a penalty five minutes later. 10-0 Trinity. Both teams tried to play attacking rugby but Trinity crucially picked off an interception when Richard Brady stepped in front of a predictable move and ran 50 meters. With opportunities to score they should have finished a fine move out wide on the left when Chris Jebb broke and could not link with Wing Colin Murphy. This was followed by heavy pressure by the forwards but the home team scrambled well to keep the students out.

In the second half Trinity continued to control the game as the home team seemed to implode when they gave another interception to out side centre Conor Colclough who ran in from 60 metres out.

27-0 to Trinity. DLSP did come back with a score of their own under the posts. David Joyce capped a fine first up game with another penalty to give him 20 pts on the day. Trinity struggled to gain any momentum/continuity to go for the bonus point with four tries. DLSP did score again on the last play of the game when some sloppy defending let the home team’s right wing in for a soft try.

A good performance for the students, they must consider themselves slightly lucky to have received two interception tries. Hopefully this will now give them confidence for the Highfield game next week in College park.

15 Chris Jebb, 14 Colin Murphy, 13 Conor Colclough, 12 Richard Brady. 11 Killian Stafford, 10 David Joyce, 9 Eddie Hamilton (Andy Dold 70), 1 Colm Goode, 2 Mark Murdoch (Alan Mathews 65), 3 James Gethings (Paddy McCabe 65), 4 Pat Danahy (Colin McDonnell 68), 5 Scott LaValla, 6 Max Cantrell, 7 Shane Young, 8 Brian Coyle (Eddie Molloy 65).

The Trinity U20s B played on the weekend and ran out 59-3 winners against Naas in Santry.

Trinity J3s were very unlucky loosing away to Suttonians under floodlights on Friday night, 18-13.
