Old Wesley Take the Points. 27/03/2010
Trinity 11pts – Old Wesley 19pts Trinity entertained Old Wesley for the first time in a few years on Saturday at Trinity started brightly with the forwards dominating the set piece and the backs running the ball through the phases, but continuous unforced errors stopped any real progress against what seemed a disinterested Old Wesley team in the first period. The students gift wrapped two kickable penalties and got one themselves when out half Dave Joyce nailed a kick from 35 metres out. Trinity created the only real try scoring opportunities in the first half but errors were the problem all game. In the second half with the breeze it looked good for the home team to show their superiority and press their advantages home in front of a large crowd. This they did not do as errors continued to mount up. Added to this two of Trinity team were sin binned at different times. With all the ball off mistakes and turnovers Old Wesley began to get some momentum. They were then allowed to score two of the softest tries seen in To their credit Trinity came back with outstanding freshman flanker Dominic Gallagher the best player on the pitch by a long way with his high work rate and all action game, leading the way. James O’Donoghue kicked a penalty on his 1st XV debut, Irish U19s Dominic Gallagher scored a sensational individual try when he beat several defenders to score by the posts. The conversion was rushed and missed which kind of summed up the game for the students as this would have put them back in the game with a few minutes to go.
