TRINITY BEAT SUTTONIANS! 06/09/2008 Suttonians 5pts – Trinity 19pts Trinity won their first game of the season in the Leinster Senior Cup group match that was changed from college park to Sutton because of the recent rain storms. When the game started the students minds must still have been on the DART as the home side scored in the first 45 seconds of the game, when they counter attacked a loose kick, gained a penalty and their scrum half tapped quickly to dive over. That as the last time the home side troubled the scoreboard. Suttonians did have their opportunities but did not take them. As the half progressed Trinity came more into the game. Playing positive rugby was difficult as the teams struggled with a strong cross wind and the new interpretation of the clear out in rucks. The ball handling from both sides was below par as the game had all the hallmarks of a pre season game. Trinity right wing Chris Jebb did score a try when he finished off a fine break by centre Eddie Hamilton. Out half Micheal Boland converted. In the second half Trinity dominated territory and never really came under too much pressure. The forwards dominated possession which could auger well for the new season. Full back Andy Wallace finished off another bout of handling, after sub Paul Gillespie and outside centre Conor Coclough had made initial inroads into the home defence. Later in the game Eddie Hamilton now playing scrum half broke down the blind-side to score a well taken try. Trinity did not manage to secure a bonus point for four tries, and may regret this fact as Junior club Navan surprisingly defeated Blackrock on Saturday and there will be everything to play for on Tuesday night in Navan in the final group one match of the Leinster Senior cup. 15 Andy Wallace (Paul Gillespie 50), 14 Chris Jebb, 13 Conor Coclough, 12 Eddie Hamilton, 11 Killian Stafford, 10 Micheal Boland, 9 Bryan Johnson (Dave McGuire 60), 1 Tristan Goodbody, 2 Mark Murdoch, 3 James Gethings (Craig Telford 70), 4 Pat Danahy, 5 Pierce Byrne, 6 John Byrne, 7 Shane Young, 8 Scott Lavalla (Rich Morrow 40) |
