TRINITY EYE TOP FOUR!! 11/04/2009 Belfast Harlequins 13pts – Trinity 34pts; Trinity played against their fourth Ulster opponent in five games, and came away from the impressive Deramore Park, home of Belfast Harlequins, with their first win against that club. The home team started strongly and scored early on when their outside centre broke free to set up a try for his supporting flanker. Trinity then settled into their pattern and after several well worked phases Centre Conor Colclough broke the line for a long run only to be held up under the posts by the scrambling home defence, the ball was recycled quickly and #8 Brian Coyle peeled off to score by the posts. The teams traded scores before half time with veteran flanker Eddie Molloy scoring after a move in the backs that put McCoy through a gap, the ball was recycled smartly and Molloy dived over in the corner. Harlequins scored their own try in the corner after some patient work on the student’s line. Off the restart second row Scott LaValla got up to catch the ball on the full, the Trinity forwards cleared out, the ball was moved to out half Richard Brady who made a half break before releasing full back Paul Gillespie who beat two players and sprinted to the corner before switching with his wing Trinity U20s captain Tim McCoy who finished off the movement for a great try.19-10 up at half time Trinity were far from finished. In the second half the students dominated proceedings in all aspects of the game and the home team seemed to lose interest. Scrum Half Eddie Hamilton, playing in front of his home clubs supporters, was next on the score sheet, when he broke the defence close in to score by the posts. The game lost its structure in the last 20 minutes, but captain Shane Young pounced on a loose ball near the Harlequins line after a big tackle by replacement out-half Michael Boland. It was also good to see former Trinity and now Cambridge University prop Niall Conlon come off the bench for the home team. This was another impressive win by the students who are now on a roll. They are three points out of fourth place with one game to go. Next Saturday they welcome high riding and 2nd place team Lansdowne to College park. Lansdowne have to win the game to guarantee promotion to the first division. Trinity will have to win the game for an outside shot at the play offs. It should be interesting viewing for all supporters!!! The league table with one game to go looks like this below. The top four go to the play offs. Bruff have to travel to Greystones, and Old Crescent travel to Malone.
