TRINITY GO TOP FOR CHRISTMAS!! 10/12/2011
Trinity 6pts – DLSP 3pts; Trinity played DLSP in the top of the table clash on Saturday, on a very sticky/muddy College Park surface. The game was played in front of a large vocal crowd who cheered on their respective teams. The score-line of course sums up the game as both teams defences dominated for much of the day. Without doubt the students deserved their narrow win as, apart from when they had players in the sin bin, they dominated both possession and territory. Trinity Captain Dave Joyce kicked two first half penalties to one from DLSP and that was all the scoring in the game. DLSP had one try scoring opportunity while Trinity fairly butchered at least four or five chances. Trinity‘s approach work was generally good but they just could not get the ball over the line. While Trinity had two players in the bin the visitors got their only proper momentum. Trinity’s defence, as it has been all year, stood up to the test. Trinity has the best defence in the top three national leagues. At the end of the day ‘top at Christmas’ means nothing unless the lads can carry on the good form into the New Year. Trinity now face a six week break until the 28th January when they travel to Thomond – always a tough away fixture. 15 James O’Donoghue, 14 Neil Hanratty, 13 Ariel Robles. 12 Paddy Lavelle, 11 Niyi Adeolukan, 10 Dave Joyce, Mick McLoughlin, 1 Ian Hirst, 2 Tim O’Mahony (Warren Larkin 55), 3 Paul McFeely (Colin Goode 35-65), 4 Colin MacDonnell, 5 Jack Kelly (Julian Mackey 50), 6 Brendan O’Connell, 7 Dominic Gallagher, 8 Jack Dilger;
