TRINITY JUNIOR TEAMS ALL WIN! 16/10/2010
With the 1st XV taking a well earned week off before travelling North to play Belfast Harelquins next weekend. It was the turn of the club J1 (2nds) team to take centre stage. They travelled out to Booterstown to play in the famous Blackrock College School. Unfortunately AIL Division 1A Rock were not at their best and fielded a severely depleted team.
The J1s could only play what was in front of them, winning out comfortably 71-7 in a game where the referee blew the whistle early in the second half for full time. It was the second game of the week for Trinity after losing to Lansdowne 22-19 to a last minute penalty on Tuesday evening in a game that the students scored three tries to one and played all the rugby on the night. With playing numbers and spirit through the roof, the J1 team is coming together nicely under the guidance of new coaching team Noel Hehir and Noel Hayden. They have a week off next week before they tackle Old Wesley 2nds.
The entire Trinity 20s squad played Old Wesley in a double header. The U20s Pennant XV started the day with an impressive win, playing a physical but skilful brand of running rugby winning out 39-12 over last years Harry Gale winners.
The U20s Premier XV followed and struggled in the first half with Old Wesley leading 9-3 at half time. Trinity then picked it up in the second half scoring four tries in pretty quick time before returning to their mediocre first half form. In a game absolutely ruiend by the referee as a spectacle, the students will be glad to have a bonus point win under their belts in a lack lustre display. Next week the U20s will play in the highly prestigious inter-varsities Conroy Cup being hosted by UCD. With 60+ players at training The U20s will field two more teams on Sunday against Paris Polytechnique in the newly renovated Santry Sportsgrounds.
The Trinity J3 were also off, but the Trinity J4 beat Parkmore in Terenure 41-0. The 4ths played outstanding running Rugby and are second in their league pool. They too host Paris Polytechnique who bring three teams over next week. |
