TRINITY LOSE OUT TO BRUFF!! 29/11/2008 Bruff 13pts – Trinity 12pts Trinity travelled to Co Limerick to play their first ever AIL game against Bruff who came into the game in second place in the league. Bruff play a typical Munster forward orientated game and it was crucial that the students face up to the more experienced and bigger opponents. This they did in a tremendously physical encounter. Every facet of the game was keenly contested as Trinity played some excellent rugby in the first half. In the 11th minute Trinity ran the ball off a scrum and swept the field with Full back Paul Gillepsie, wing Chris Jebb handling brilliantly to put Conor Colclough over for a superbly executed try. Bruff came back with a penalty of their own to make it 5-3 to the students. In the 34th minute Trinity struck again when scrum half Eddie Hamilton made a break, to put the supporting loosehead prop Tristan Goodbody away with the ball, the prop shocked everyone in the ground with a supercharged turn of speed to sprint 35 metres for a fantastic individual effort. 12-3 up Trinity looked in a good situation, immediately off the restart wing Chris Jebb was judged to have run into a player while he was chasing (highly dubious) and was sin binned. This seemed to spur on the home team and crowd. Just on half time Bruff to their credit taking advantage of the one man down in the Trinity back line scored in the corner to close the score to 12-8. In the second half the game seemed to turn, as the vocal home crowd seemed to get to the officials of the game, every 50/50 decision seemed to go against the students. With this Bruff began to get field position in the Trinity half and this suited the home team down to the ground they pounded away but could not make any headway as their big runners were repeatedly knocked back wards. Trinity incredibly had another player controversially sin binned and the fight became harder and harder. Eventually with the students one man down Bruff did get over after about three or four penalties in a row on the Trinity line. Trinity came back in the dying minutes and Conor Colclough and John Byrne made breaks but could not get the necessary points for a win. Trinity team; 15 Paul Gillespie, 14 Chris Jebb,13 Conor Colclough, 12 Richard Brady 11 Colin Murphy, 10 Andy Wallace, 9 Eddie Hamilton, 1 Tristan Goodbody, 2 Mark Murdock, 3 James Gethings, 4 Colin McDonnell (John Byrne 60). 5 Scott LaValla, 6 Max Cantrell, 7 Shane Young, 8 Brian Coyle (Eddie Molloy 60). On Sunday Trinity 2nds followed their 1st XV by defeating their UCD counterparts with an emphatic 31-0 bonus point win in Belfield. This puts the J1s at the top of the league with one game to go before the Christmas break. Tries were scored by Shane Hanratty (two) John Byrne, Johnny Iliff and Eddie Molloy. Out-half Dave McGuire in his first game of the season after injury kicked two conversions and Andy Dold kicked another. Outstanding for Trinity were the forwards who dominated all facets of the game. The Trinity U20s lost to Lansdowne 30-10 in a game that did not reflect the score. Trinity played a lot of the rugby and scored the try of the game by captain Tim McCoy, but were punished by the experienced Lansdowne XV. In this Super six format Trinity will get another chance to play them in the new year. Next weekend they play Blackrock College in another tough encounter. Trinity U20s B had a great bonus point win out in Suttonians 31-6. This result puts them in third place in the Leinster first Division. They play Naas this weekend before the Christmas break. Trinity J3s lost 25-13 to St Marys in game where they were very competitive. Trinity J4s had their first win of the season 15-8 against Newbridge. Congratulations to everyone involved !!! |
