TRINITY LOSE THEIR WAY! 06/12/2008 Trinity 9pts – Wanderers 16pts This game was moved to Blackrock College School due to an unplayable College Park. In perfect sunny conditions Trinity struggled from early on against a well drilled, if somewhat limited, Wanderers outfit. The students had plenty of possession but did not manage to put anything together in the way of good rugby. Wing Chris Jebb kicked two penalties early on to put the students ahead 6-0. Wanderers crucially came back to score a try off a line out after a mix up in the Trinity defence where they were handed field position. Trinity played all the rugby but played it poorly. They kept turning ball over as scoring opportunities arose. Wanderers kicked ball to the students all day long, but Trinity could not take advantage of the field position they had. As the game progressed into the second half Trinity grew more and more frustrated as they failed to take advantage of their clear superiority at scrum time. The error count was easily in the 20s at the end of the game. The game just died a death which suited the lowly (placed) Wanderers team. In the final minutes Trinity kicked a penalty to secure a bonus point. This really was an opportunity lost for the students. They never really fired a shot, and after some very good performances in recent weeks this really was a ‘come down’ against limited opposition. Trinity were fortunate to get the bonus point in the end. Next week they need to get back on the winning track against the always competitive and fellow students UCC in the Mardyke, Cork. Team; 15 Paul Gillepsie, 14 Chris Jebb, 13 Conor Colclough, 12 Richard Brady, 11 Shane Hanratty, 10 Andy Wallace, 9 Eddie Hamilton, 1 Tristan Goodbody, 2 Mark Murdock (Alan Mathews 65), 3 James Gethings (Paddy McCabe 70), 4 Colin McDonnell (John Byrne 65), 5 Scott LaValla, 6 Max Cantrell, 7 Shane Young, 8 Brian Coyle Eddie Molloy 65). Trinity U20s lost away to Blackrock College 18-10 in a game they most certainly could have won. They led early on and mounted a good challenge before the end when Rock kicked a last minute penalty to ice the game. The U20s have been decimated through injury this season but they hope to start winning some of these close games after Christmas. Trinity Senior 2nds and Trinity U20s B both had there games cancelled due to frost yesterday. |
