TRINITY LOSE TO TERENURE
08/01/2011

Terenure 17pts  Trinity 5pts

Trinity travelled the short distance to Terenure where they played their first league game since November 13th. They were beaten in an error strewn game which not surprisingly looked like a pre season game.

Trinity played into the strong icy wind first half and dominated possession while playing most of the half in their own territory. For the most part they kept the ball, without threatening the home defence too often.

Terenure defended with good enthusiasm and scored their two tries from Trinity mistakes. The first try was after Trinity were forced to down the ball in their in goal. From the ensuing scrum Terenure attacked from close in and eventually powered their way over. The second was when Trinity “knocked on” near their 22 metre line, the Terenure scrum half picked and ran through unopposed to score under the posts.

Sandwiched in between these tries was a fine Trinity try from centre Ciaran Wade. Trinity kept the ball for several phases before out half Dave Joyce made a half break and Wade did the rest which brought the score back to 7-5. but Terenure added their second try and kicked a penalty on half time to lead 17-5.

In the second half the game became a stop start affair with no momentum either way. Trinity had most of the field position but struggled to make any headway against an ever increasing energetic home team aided by the slippery conditions. Trinity had their opportunities but seemed to make unforced errors in scoring situations.

All in all this was easily the most disappointing performance by the students this season. They have to bounce back, as next week they host the new Connacht Senior Cup Champions  Corinthians in College Park 2.30pm Kick off.

15 James O’Donoghue, 14 Neil Hanratty (Niyi Adeolukan 60),13 Conor Colclough, 12 Ciaran Wade, 11 Tim McCoy, 10 Dave Joyce, 9 Sam Bell (Mick McLoughlin 60), 1 Paddy McCabe (Craig Telford 60), 2 Mark Murdoch (Tim O’Mahony 70), 3 James Gethings, 4 Colin McDonnell (Alan Mathews 50), 5 Pierce Byrne, 6 Johnny Iliff, 7 Dominic Gallagher, 8 Scott LaValla;

Trinity 2nds continued their impressive season so far with a 25-16 win over Blackrock College RFC on a sticky College park,  No8 Dermot O’Riordan scoring three tries. This completes an impressive double over the illustrious Division 1A club.

Trinity U20s Premier XV lost 26-17 to League leaders Clontarf in Santry. This was a classic “game of two halves” with Clontarf scoring all their points in the first half with the wind and Trinity scoring their tries in the second half. Trinity certainly deserved a bonus point for their part in an entertaining game.

Trinity J3s were cancelled at the last minute by Naas RFC so Trinity get the points.

Trinity J4s had an impressive 24-5 win over Emerald warriors on Saturday.
