TRINITY 2NDs AND U20s GET DOUBLE OVER BARNHALL!! 09/11/2008 TRINITY 2NDs AND U20s GET DOUBLE OVER BARNHALL!! With the 1st XV preparing for the annual colours game on Friday evening. The Trinity 2nd and U20s XVs hosted Barnhall on Sunday afternoon. Due to torrential rain overnight the games were moved to Santry from College park. Although in better condition than the waterlogged College park, Santry was in terrible boggy condition. The game was playable but good running rugby was a tall order for any team that tried it. Table toppers Trinity 2nds played first, and dominated the opening half into the wind. Out half Micheal Boland ghosted through to score a nice individual try and that was the only scoring in the first half. Barnhall although low down in the J1 rankings played the University team tough. They were very spirited in the forwards although outclassed at scrum and line out. The combination of plucky Barnhall resistance and the conditions levelled the game out considerably. In the second half Boland added a penalty and full back Hugo Walford scored a well taken try. In the conditions Trinity will be pleased to have got the win and move on another day. The 2nds are off this week. The Trinity U20s took the field straight after, and were made to fight for the first half by a fired up Barnhall XV. Barnhall could have built a lead but did not take there chances as the students kept them out early on. As the game developed, Trinity began to establish some authority and scored a fine try after four phases of rugby. Fortunate to be up 5-3 at half time, the students dominated territory and possession in the second half and won out 28-10. Tim McCoy scored two tries and Centre Peter Finnegan scored a well taken try in the corner. Trinity who with this win guaranteed a place in the JP Fanagan Super Six, are now undefeated in league play when they travel to Belfield next Sunday for their game with undefeated UCD. Both teams are in the ‘Super Six’ and this game will count as points for that competition. Next weekend; Trinity play UCD in the senior colours on Friday night in Donnybrook, and the U20s colours on Sunday in Belfield at 2.30pm. |
