TRINITY SHARE THE SPOILS!! 25/10/2008 Trinity 13pts – Bective 13pts This game had all the mixed emotions that any game can carry. Both teams felt unlucky not to win the game. Trinity should have had the game well and truly won sixty minutes into the game. Bective had an easy penalty to win in the last minute and missed. This missed opportunity cancelled out the students missing two kicks in front of the posts earlier in the half!! It was one of those games played in wind and rain at muddy College park. Trinity had the use of the wind and rain and used it quite well dominating field position. They clearly had an edge in the backs, and when the game broke up the backs opened up the Bective defence with ease. With out doubt the muddy conditions helped the bigger less mobile Bective team. Trinity was awarded a penalty early on and wing Chris Jebb converted. Trinity followed this with a fine try when the backs broke through and Eddie Hamilton linked to put full back Andy Wallace in for a fine try. Bective came back and from a rare visit to the Trinity 22 came away with a crucial three points for a penalty. Later in the half the students scored again when Eddie Hamilton finished off some fine handling to score out wide. 13-3 at half time Trinity faced into the conditions had a lot of work to do. The pack dug in manfully to hold the massive Bective eight. Bective never really looked like creating a try, but they kept chipping away punishing Trinity’s indiscretions. They kicked two more penalties, and then was ‘gift wrapped’ a simple try when a sequence of Trinity errors led to them scoring a try after they were awarded a penalty at a scrum. Their #8 ran over to score from 5 metres out. At 13-13 both teams struggled to find any continuity in the conditions. Bective finished the game on the Trinity line, the Trinity defence as it has been all year was outstanding and aggressive and always looked good to hold on. They did however give away a penalty which the visitors missed. On reflection a draw was probably the fair result with both teams having opportunities to win. Trinity only have one loss in league play so far, and now face a four week break from league play. Trinity are only two points off third place and three points off second place. The colours is up next on the 14th November. This game is followed by a tough run into Christmas, with away games against top five teams Bruff (November 29th) and UCC (December 13th). They have a home game sandwiched in between against local rivals Wanderers (December 7th). Trinity U20s had a disappointing weekend in Belfast for the Inter-varsities Conroy cup. The tournament was cut short by the horrendous weather conditions. Trinity played UCC and lost 26-15.
