TRINITY UNDER 20S BEAT LANSDOWNE!! 21/10/2007 Lansdowne 3pts Trinity 34pts With the 1st and 2nd XVs not playing this past weekend the clubs U20s took centre stage at the Lansdowne temporary new ground in the RDS running out convincing winners. It was a perfect day for rugby with virtually no wind and a carpet of grass to play on. Both these teams have been on a collision course as they have steamrollered group opposition thus far this season. Lansdowne have recruited very successfully over the summer and have brought together an impressive squad of underage stars. With Irish U20s squad training several of their players were missing with two or three coming off the bench in the second half. Trinity set about their task in the forwards where they dominated their opposition in the set piece. The Trinity backs ran the ball at every opportunity and made several breaks with out finishing. Out half Richard Brady kicked two penalties to one from Lansdowne in the opening period. Midway through the first half Trinity ran the ball wide, recycled ball quickly off the tackle and scrum half Sam Bell ran and fed wing Ciaran Donohoe who swerved around and then ran way from the defence to score a spectacular try from the half way line. 13-3 to Trinity half time. In the second half Trinity dominated all aspects of the game and they scored three more tries from flanker Conor McGinn, and centre Eoin Fleck. In the dying minutes Trinity scored off a pushover line out which gave them a bonus point for four tries. This was a highly satisfying win for Trinity. They should not get carried away though as Lansdowne with a full squad will be back after Christmas looking for revenge. Other news; With the U20s A in the RDS, Trinity sent another U20s squad down to Naas to play a vital qualifying game in JP Fanagan Leinster Division one. The Pennant U20s B team who are only just coming together and are all freshman, played some superb rugby to win out 41-21. They are now guaranteed a place in the top league of Division one. The 3rd XV played their second league game losing this time to Stillorgan 1st XV. It was 6-5 at half time but Stillorgan ran away with the game in the second half. Next week brings the start of the AIL. Trinity start with a difficult game in Donnybrook against the very experienced Bective Rangers. It will be a busy weekend for the club as they are hosting the Universities Conroy Cup in Santry (Saturday) and College park on Sunday. They also host Ecole Poly Technique (Paris) who has brought over three teams for games in Santry on Sunday. |
