TRINITY U20S B WIN LEAGUE FINAL!! 26/02/2006 Bective 7pts Trinity U20s B 8pts The Trinity U20s Bs took centre stage this weekend with their league final at Donnybrook. In a titanic struggle and classic cup game they won the JP Fanagan first division league final for the first time. The lads had taken the runner up spot in their group matches due to the usual late start to the season. This was their ninth win in a row and the squad and management should be congratulated for their great win. The students started well and kept the ball for long periods through several phases. They scored their only try which was from a well worked line out manoever. The pack dominated all day. Bective lived off scraps and always looked dangerous. In the second half Bective scored after Trinity turned over the ball. They converted the score to take a 7-5 lead. Trinity came back hard and lifted the tempo of the game, Bective infringed and #8 Zac Desmond kicked the points for the students to regain the lead. The game then moved into the closing stages and both teams had chances to score. Bective missed two long range penalty efforts. The Trinity players and supporters were ecstatic at the result of the game. This was a great result for the players, management and club in general. All the top teams in Division one are clubs with their A string entered in the League. For a genuine B squad to come through to take the spoils is indeed a fantastic achievement. Coaches Mark McGinty and Dave Hyland (along with the U20s A coaches) have put in mountains of work moulding together a hard working team. Their vociferous and highly organised manager Seamous Considine has help engender a superb team spirit, and I believe the team is just getting in from their celebrations at the time of writing!! Team; 15 Michael Kavanagh,14 Paddy Ferrante, 13 Eoin Cross,12 Chris Sale, 11Alistair Musgrave,10 Bill Walsh, 9 Bryan Roche,1 Mark Wright,2 Ben Cunningham 3 Eoin O' Cuilligan, 4 Dave Byrne, 5 Alan Matthews, 6 Dan Brennan, 7 David Whately 8 Zac Desmond; Subs: Ben Duffy, Mark McGrath, Fergal Hughes, Howard Mahon Theo O'Donnell, Peter Marshall, Eoin Tuite On Saturday the 1st XV had a Dudley cup game with UCC and won convincingly 19-3 in Santry. The 1st XV played some good rugby and thoroughly deserved their three tries to nil win. Both teams were without several regulars, but it was good for Trinity to get back into winning mould against a team that is towards the top of the second Division of the AIL. A depleted Trinity 2nd XV won (17-16) their Metro cup game against Old Wesley at Santry on saturday. This was a classic instance of a team playing down to the level of the opposition. Trinity were lucky to win in the end after a disappointing performance in a extremely scrappy affair. This was the 2nd XVs first game in a few weeks. Old Wesley had a kick to win the game at the end. So Trinity can count themselves lucky. Next week they play Old Belvedere in College park in the next round of the Metro cup. Next weekend the 1st XV have to win at home to Dungannon to stand any chance of survival in the first Division KO at College park 2.30pm. The U20s A play Lansdowne in a winner take all game. Trinity were undefeated but finished second in the league and Lansdowne finished fifth. They play off for the right to represent Leinster in the national championships in April. The game will be at Santry on Sunday 3pm. |
