TRINITY U20s LOSE CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH BLACKROCK!! 01/02/2008 Trinity U20s played their second game in a row under floodlights against old rivals Blackrock College RFC U20s. The game was played at Blackrock College School and was the first game played under the new lights. Going into the game the teams were at the top of the very competitive “super six” JP Fanagan table. ‘Rock’ were ahead but Trinity had two games in hand which if won would put them top. With the wind Blackrock came out attacking and they scored their only try in the opening minutes of the game. The teams ran the ball at every opportunity and both teams created opportunities but scrambling defence snuffed out any other chance of a try before half time. Trinity pack dominated the set pieces but the defences dominated over all. Blackrock were up 7-0 at half time. They kicked a penalty early on to move ahead 10-0 but Trinity came back with a penalty of their own through captain and full back Chris Jebb. The Trinity forwards then took over and smashed their way over several phases for a well taken try. 10-10, Blackrock lifted the siege to kick another penalty. Trinity came back to score the best try of the game when from a quick penalty they ran the ball from deep surprising the home team and right wing Ciaran Donohoe rounded the defence to score a magnificent try under the posts. 15-13 Trinity. Discipline hurt Trinity after this score. With the game looking comfortably in their hands, they gave away two silly penalties that ultimately cost them the game. They tried hard to get the vital winning score, but the home team somehow hung on and took the points. Trinity are now 10pts behind with two games in hand… they need to win those two games with bonus points to regain the lead from Blackrock. The general consensus from both teams was that this would not be the last time that these teams will meet this season – let’s hope not!! The top three teams in Leinster go to the All Ireland quarter final. Trinity team; 15 Chris Jebb, 14 Ciaran Donohoe, 13 Conor Coclough, 12 Neil O’Keefe, 11 Colin Murphy, 10 Harry Murphy, 9 Sam Bell, 1 Colin Goode, 2 Marc Murdoch, 3 James Gethings (Paddy McCabe), 4 Colin McDonnell, 5 Pierce Byrne, 6 Conor McGinn, 7 Johnny Iliff (Cillian Suiter), 8 Scott LaValla. Other News; Trinity J1 game with Naas was rained off. Trinity J3 had their best win of the season over Clontarf 53-14. |
