TRINITY WIN HARD FOUGHT GAME IN MIDLETON. 26/11/2011
TRINTIY 15 MIDLETON 7. Trinity travelled down to Midleton, County Cork on Saturday and were delighted to come away with a win in difficult heavy conditions. Fresh off the disappointing loss in the colours Trinity worked hard to get into the game as the home team kept the ball close to their pack. Trinity’s defence were well up to the task, smashed the Midleton runners backward and got a few a turnovers in the process. 10 minutes into the game Trinity broke out and scored a nice try when they counter attacked and right wing Neil Hanratty ran in from 30 metres out. Captain Dave Joyce kicked the conversion. 12 minutes later Trinity attacked a loose kick and left wing Niyi Adeolukan got open from inside his own half and put the speed burners on to run around the cover defence to score a spectacular try. In the second half the game became bogged down literally as the pitch cut up quite badly. Trinity had the wind at their backs and played territory for the most part. They did create a few opportunities to score but the plucky home defence and the conditions tended to stifle any real attacking flair. Out half Dave Joyce did add a penalty late in the game for Trinity to go 15-0. Midleton never stopped attacking with ball in hand and got a deserved try on the last play of the game. 15 James O’Donoghue, 14 Neil Hanratty, 13 Ciaran Wade (Ariel Robles 25), 12 Paddy Lavelle, 11 Niyi Adeolukan, 10 Dave Joyce, 9 Mick McLoughlin (Billy Glynn 70), 1 Ian Hirst, 2 Warren Larkin (Tim O’Mahony 40), 3 Paul McFeely (Ed Tate 65), 4 Colin MacDonnell, 5 Jack Kelly, 6 Brendan O’Connell (John Iliff 50), 7 Dominic Gallagher, 8 Jack Dilger Trinity U21s Premier had a crucial win in College Park against old rivals Blackrock College 44-27 in a game that resembled the Super 15 in the Southern hemisphere. Trinity played great rugby in the 1st half to go 30-8 up at half time and have the bonus point secured. Blackrock came back in the second half to make a game of it, but were always too far behind a student team who were losing their concentration late on in the game. The U21s now play Old Wesley on Friday night in Donnybrook at 7.45pm. Trinity U21s Pennant lost their first Super Six (A section) game v Naas (A team) in a disappointing performance in Santry 20-7. Trinity J3s had a fabulous win v RCSI - 55-3 V. They now head the league table. Well done to Coach Travis Partridge and the lads. Trinity J1s play UCD in Belfield on Tuesday night at 8pm. |
