TRINITY WIN IN NAVAN!!
09/09/2008
Navan 0 – Trinity 14pts
Trinity travelled to a wet and windy Navan last night to play their final game in the Leinster Senior Cup group one. They faced a buoyant home team fresh off a huge upset of Blackrock College last Saturday.
From the first whistle Trinity dominated their opponents and were 14pts up in twenty minutes with tries by prop Tristan Goodbody and captain and flanker Shane Young. Both tries were converted by out half Michael Boland. They should have been out of sight in the first half as they blitzed the home team in all departments. They simply could not score more tries as a combination of the wet conditions, referees interpretation at the tackle - which seems to deeply go against the team in possession of the ball - and scrambling Navan defence kept them out.
In the second half Navan, with the wind, came back into the game, but Trinity’s very physical defence smashed back the opposing runners.
This was an important win for the students who have a bigger and tougher look to the team this season. They now have to wait for the results from the other group games on Saturday to see if they (a) win Group One – Blackrock need to beat Suttonians with a bonus point or by more than 14 pts to win the group, or (b) go through as a best loser. There are five groups of four teams. The five group winners and three best losers go through to the quarter final.
