TRINITY WIN U20s COLOURS!! 07/02/2010
Trinity U20s beat their Belfield rival UCD three tries to nil in a very entertaining “Super Six” game played on a heavy surface in Santry yesterday. The win gives the Dublin University the Jamsie Maher Trophy for the ‘U20s Colours’ played over two games. UCD won the earlier game 6-5 but Trinity win out on an overall aggregate 25-9 four tries to nil over the two games. The game as usual was played at a fast pace, with Trinity keeping possession and seemingly running from everywhere. UCD scrambled well and kept the home team out after the opening exchanges. On ten minutes Captain and inside centre Paul Galbraith kicked a penalty to put Trinity ahead. Trinity continued to take the game to their rival. Trinity scored their first try when scrum half Sam Bell caught his opposite at the base of a UCD scrum, the ball was recovered by flanker Hugh Kelleher who passed to #8 Jack Dilger to put lightning fast winger Niyi Adeolokun away down the wing, Niyi skinned the full back on the outside and sped away to score from 50 metres out. UCD came back strong with their best play of the game. They kept the ball well and tried to smash their way through the spirited Trinity defence with their big forwards and their impressive driving maul. Trinity kept them out and eventually cleared their lines with a penalty. In the second half, Trinity had the use of a slight breeze and slope. Out half Ciaran Wade kicked well for position. The home team kept the pressure on the visitors. Trinity had a few opportunities to score but spilled ball more than once close to the line. Trinity scored again when from a line out big 6’7 second row Conor McDermott caught the ball and ran through the UCD line out. He set up quick ruck ball, from this the ball was moved quickly through the hands the width of the field, for Right Wing Ariel Roblez to beat the cover and score in the corner. UCD came straight back when from the restart Trinity had players in front of the ball on a box kick. Out half On 65 minutes Trinity scored the match winning try, and what a cracker! From a long UCD kick out from their 22 metre area, Trinity did a classic counter attack moving the ball right to left the width of the field to outside centre Peter Finegan who attacked up the right hand touchline before passing back inside to Niyi Adeolokun. The speedy elusive wing did the rest beating four defenders to score by the posts. Trinity were now in bonus point territory, but UCD to their credit came back looking for a consolation try and pressured the Trinity line. Trinity defence, determined not to give away the try, put in some massive hits driving the ball carriers back metres at a time. This win puts Trinity into third place in the JP Fanagan U20s table. They next play league leaders Lansdowne( who are four points ahead) St Mary’s are one point behind Lansdowne with UCD one point behind Trinity. Trinity have a game in hand and have to play St Mary’s once and Lansdowne twice.
