TRINTY AVENUE LAST TWO YEARS! 15/10/2011 Trinity 18pts – Terenure 3pts; October 16th 2011
Trinity have lost to Terenure in the past two AIL campaigns, so it was good to see them go out and get the win against a very physical and well organised team. Trinity dominated the opening quarter of the game playing some wonderful open rugby. They did however struggle to score a try as a combination of scrambling defence and poor option taking near the Terenure line cost the students several scores.
Left Wing Niyi Adeolukan was put away for one score, but it should have been more. Captain Dave Joyce did manage a penalty which gave them an eight point lead.
Terenure had their purple patch in the second quarter where they had their opportunities, but the Trinity defence worked and scrambled hard to keep them to a solitary penalty goal.
At 8-3 going into the second half Trinity took the game to their opponents and began to dominate all facets of the game. The forwards worked hard on and off the ball. The backs made several line breaks but did not finish. Midway through the second half the backs pulled off a well rehearsed move to put centre Paddy Lavelle away for a great try. Later in the game, Dave Joyce put a nice grubber into the corner for wing Ariel Robles to spectacularly gather and score in the corner. Trinity had a chance for a bonus point, but Terenure dug deep and denied the home team the extra point.
This was a good result for the students, who now take a week off before they travel to Galway to play undefeated Corinthians. Team; 15 James O’Donoghue, 14 Neil Hanratty (Ariel Roblez 55), 13 Ciaran Wade, 12 Paddy Lavelle, 11 Niyi Adeolukan, 10 Dave Joyce, 9 Mick McLoughlin (Billy Glynn 68), 1 Ian Hirst, 2 Warren Larkin (Tim O’Mahony 40), 3 Paddy McCabe (Paul McFeely 40), 4 Colin MacDonnell, 5 Jack Kelly, 6 Colin Goode (Johnny Ilff 40), 7 Dominic Gallagher, 8 Jack Dilger.
