CORK CON TAKE THE SPOILS AGAIN!
Cork Con 19pts, Trinity 3pts; February 4th 2017

Trinity travelled to Temple Hill Cork on Saturday, and even though they put in a much-improved performance they did not come away with any points against the well-drilled home team who completed the double over the Dublin based University.

Trinity dominated long periods of the first half, playing some very good rugby. But the finishing touch very much eluded them despite some great approach play. Out half Jack McDermott did kick one penalty from two, but the Students went in 6-3 down at half time.

In the second half Trinity continued to attack and went close on two or three occasions. But half way through the second half Cork Con scored two tries in five minutes. The first was when the ball shot out of a scrum and the home scrum half retrieved the ball near the Trinity line, three rucks later Con were over the line.

Minutes later Con was over again when they broke blind off a line out for a very soft try. In just a few minutes the visitors were two scores behind and effectively out of the game. Trinity came back to dominate the last ten minutes or so, but did not manage to add to their score, turn down kicking opportunities in their quest for tries..

The Students have been punished in their last four games for basic errors. They need to learn from these errors and come back strong for next Fridays clash with Old Belvedere who just signed former Irish coach Eddie O’Sullivan for the rest of the season. The game will kick off in College park at 7.30pm.
