TRINITY DISAPPOINT IN CORK!

UCC 28pts – Trinity 14pts

UCC won their first All Ireland league game of the season at the expense of their University rivals Trinity. The home team fully deserved their win in what was their “Colours” game. Trinity could have won the game but did not have it in the tank to win on the day in a physical encounter.

UCC opened the scoring after several phases on the Trinity line.

Trinity came back with a purple patch of play and, after complete dominance of possession in the 2ndquarter of the game, right wing Donal Liddy scored his first AIL try for the visitors after 24 phases of play.

The game was frenetic and played with good intent by both teams but errors hurt both squads as defences ruled the day. UCC took the lead early in the second half 14-7.

Trinity came straight back and were awarded a penalty try. At this point it looked as if Trinity might pull away and two quality chances were squandered.. But to the home team’s credit ,albeit aided by Trinity’s incredibly loose play, the home squad managed to score two late tries to secure a bonus point try.

Next week , Trinity travel closer to home when they play in Clontarf.
